Do Not Worry
By: Zach Collins
Jesus once commanded us, in Matthew 6:25, โDo not worry about your life.โ Can I be honest with you? Sometimes, it seems inevitable that the anxieties and fears of life will creep into your mind. The problems in this world can make you feel helpless and hopeless. I suppose thatโs the case with many people! But, when I look at the Bible, I recognize there are some things I never have to worry about feeling, as a Christian.
I never have to worry aboutโฆ
Feeling forsaken. The Hebrews writer wrote, in Hebrews 13:5, โLet your conduct be without covetousness; be content with such things as you have. For He Himself has said, โI will never leave you nor forsake you.โ I can be content with what I have, who I am, and where I am. God loves me, and He will never forsake me!
Feeling useless. Paul wrote, in 1 Corinthians 13:12, โFor as the body is one and has many members, but all the members of that one body, being many, are one body, so also is Christ.โ The beautiful thing, about being a part of Godโs family, is I am never useless. God has a need for every single child that belongs to Him. Iโm a part of a body and I have a role to play as a member of that body!
Fearing the future. Jesus said, in John 14:1-2, โLet not your heart be troubled; you believe in God, believe also in Me. In My Fatherโs house are many mansions; if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you.โ Whether Jesus was talking about the blood He would shed, or houses not made with hands, I know my future is secure if I am in His hands. He has prepared a future for me if I will prepare for the future by living for Him.
Feeling like a bother. Do you ever feel like a bother in prayer? God, itโs me again. I know I messed up like this last week, but I am praying you will forgive me again. As Paul wrote, in 1 Thessalonians 5:17, โPray without ceasingโ, literally, without interruption. My God never gets tired of hearing the pleas of His people!
Feeling unforgiven. As John wrote, in 1 John 1:9, โIf we confess our trespasses, He is faithful and just to forgive us.โ Though I recognize I sin, I know I can ask God for forgiveness. This worry should never cross my mind, โWill God forgive me?โ And, what if I do it again? God will be faithful if I am faithful in repenting and seeking His forgiveness.
Fear seems to react faster than faith. Where fear is present, faith is absent. And, where faith is present, fear is absent. But, in Christ, I never have to fear about feeling forsaken or useless. I never have to fear the future. I never have to fear feeling like a bother or feeling unforgiven. Fear is conquered by faith. Instead of fearing the uncontrollable and unpredictable in life, let us remember that, through my faith in Christ, I have nothing to worry about.
